The Dusty Universe


July 18-27, 2017

This year, sixty European engineering and science students will be chosen to participate in the 41st Summer School Alpbach, a ten day learning opportunity held in the beautiful Austrian Alps. Participants will be engaged in an in-depth learning experience. Over ten days they will attend stimulating lectures on various aspects of space science and engineering and will work intensely within smaller groups to define and design a space mission under the supervision of noted scientific and engineering experts within the field.

The Summer School Alpbach is open for application to students and graduates from ESA member (i.e. Switzerland) and cooperating states.

The Summer School is organised by FFG and co-sponsored by ESA and the national space authorities of its member and cooperating states. A traditional partner is the International Space Science Institute (ISSI). It is also supported by Austrospace, the association of Austrian space industries and research institutions.

Swiss Space Summer Camp

4-11 September 2016


The HSLU(Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts) is this year's host university of the Swiss Space Summer Camp. The Swiss Space Center is in charge of organizing the programme togheter with HSLU (scientific content, cultural exchange and logistics). Participants take care of their visa, insurance and flight tickets. The Swiss Space Center provides accommodation, meals, internal transportation, and visits to the participants.

BMSTU Summer Camp

8-22 July 2017


Since 2008, Bauman Moscow State Technical University (BMSTU) welcomes up to 10 candidates from the Swiss Space Center partner organizations to attend the “Space development: Theory and Practice International Workshop” (more). The working language for the course will be English.

This workshop is for space enthusiasts and will provide the participants with an opportunity to discuss Russian and International space programs. The 10-day program includes:

  • Tours of Russian space centers and facilities
  • Meeting professionals working on the front edge of space science and technology
  • Lectures on various subjects related to space exploration
  • Scientific conference
  • Cultural program

We managed to obtain very attractive conditions from our Russian colleagues and all the costs to attend this course will be borne by BMSTU including hotel, meals, and participation to the workshop, and visits during your 12 days in Moscow. Not covered in this offer are the airfare to Moscow and back, the cost for any extra insurance coverage, and the visa to enter Russia.

Participation to this course is open to anybody but the special conditions described above (all the cost paid) will be offered only to registered students (Bachelor, Master and PhD level) from Swiss Universities.

Beihang Summer Camp

12-21 July 2016


Since 2013, the Swiss Space Center is organizing an exchange summer school with Beihang University in Beijing, China.  

Beihang University is the new name for the former Beijing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics. It was founded in 1952 and was China’s first university focused on aeronautical and astronautical engineering and academic research. Nowadays, it holds 26 schools in many disciplines such as sciences, engineering, economics, management, humanities, law, philosophy, education, medicine and art.

Any student subscribed at BUAA or EPFL/ETHZ/Unversities of Applied Siences in space related graduate courses is eligible for application. A detailed date and program will be published soon. The summer school will cover the lodging, meals, internal transportation and entrances to museums/events. The flight tickets are the responsibility of the applicant. Who can participate?

Any students in their last year of Bachelor's degree, in Master's or PhD degrees are elligible to apply.

Specialisation in aerospace is welcomed but not mandatory.
